Buy Your Next Home in Boston, MA – Fenway
Thinking About Buying a Home in The Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts?
There is so much more to The Fenway than the Boston Red Sox, although during the 81 game days (plus playoffs) each year and the 6-10 sellout concerts, neighborhood traffic and parking is subject to those particular calendars.
The Fenway is centrally located in Boston, abutting the Back Bay, South End, Roxbury, Mission Hill, Allston, and the Town of Brookline. Almost 41,000 residents live in just 1.24 square miles, including many students who attend Boston University, Berklee College of Music, the Boston Conservatory of Music, Northeastern University, Emmanuel College, Simmons University, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Most housing units are multi-family dwellings, with a mix of classic Boston brownstones and modern newly-constructed gleaming condo and apartment buildings (primarily along Boylston Street, which looks nothing like it did just 10 years ago). Many of the new residential towers house commercial units on the street-level, everything from local merchants to trendy gyms and restaurants.
Formerly a river estuary, The Fenway’s evolution over the past century-plus is unlike many other neighborhoods. The Back Bay Fens, a parkland linked to the Emerald Necklace park system developed by Frederick Law Olmstead in the late 1800s, gives its name to the neighborhood itself (and iconic Fenway Park). This nature preserve also features manicured rose and citizen-maintained gardens leading to the Museum of Fine Arts.
Boylston Street, once home to gas stations, auto parts stores, garages, and nearby Kilmarock Street where the Boston Cab Association once lives, is now a vibrant mix of residents, restaurants, visiting locals, hip hotels, and gleaming high-rises.
In the annals of rock music in the United States, there is most certainly a well-earned pin in the map right in The Fenway. Night clubs and concert venues in Kenmore Square, on Lansdowne Street, and Fenway Park itself have played host to every noteworthy act since the 1970s. Boston Tea Party, The Rat, House of Blues, The Catacombs, Mama Kin’s, and Avalon, are legendary names where many Bostonians over 40, if asked, will gladly recall the time they saw (fill in the blank legendary rock bank) there.
